ATRIL 40: JAPAN, THE PLEASURE IS OURS

Last May, Extremadura had a prominent presence at the Osaka 2025 World Expo. From 20 to 25 May, our region showed all its tourist, cultural and gastronomic potential in the Spanish Pavilion, bringing the best of our land to the Japanese public and the whole world.
Visitors were able to immerse themselves in the essence of Extremadura through unique experiences such as being photographed wearing the colourful costumes of the Badajoz Carnival or the traditional cap of Montehermoso. But the experience went far beyond the visual: they also had the opportunity to savour a careful selection of emblematic food products from our region, brought together in an exclusive menu designed by the prestigious Extremaduran chef Juan Carlos Berrocal. With more than 40 years of experience -30 of them in Japan-, Berrocal masterfully fused the culinary tradition of Extremadura with nuances of Japanese cuisine, in a proposal as authentic as it is innovative.
As a token of gratitude for the warmth and respect with which we were received – fundamental values in Japanese culture – we at the Academy wanted to pay tribute to this wonderful country by dedicating the cover of our June edition to it. In addition, one of our articles delves into its rich and sophisticated gastronomy: a universe of flavours that combines ancestral techniques with a modern and avant-garde vision, a reflection of its cultural heritage.

Nihon, watashitachi wa yorokobi desu (Japan, the pleasure is ours).

Happy Friday!
